In Week 3 we saw a slate that delivered in every sense of the word. We had Georgia Tech upsetting Clemson, Tennessee lose a heartbreaker, and Notre Dame lose yet another Top 25 matchup. It will be hard to match the excitement of Week 3 but what makes college football so great is it’s ability to create weeks like that when you don’t expect it. There is no shortage of fun matchups in Week 4. Here’s hoping that we can have another week of great college football!
With that, let’s get into my favorite picks for Saturday.
Texas Tech vs Utah
- Spread: Utah -2.5
- O/U: 58.5
- ML: Texas Tech +126
This is one of the games on the Week 4 card that I have had circled for awhile. This one is going to be fun.
I expect a lot of points in this game with two offenses that have been scoring over 30 points a game so far this season. It’s one of those games that could very well come down to whoever gets the ball last.
Utah is at home, has a more dynamic QB in Devon Dampier, and a slightly better defense in my opinion. Give me the Utes to lay this number.
The Pick: Utah -2.5
Maryland vs Wisconsin
- Spread: Wisconsin -10.5
- O/U: 44.5
- ML: Maryland +280
I am going to be completely honest with this one: I have not watched much of either of these teams. However, I do know that neither of them have really impressed in their opening three games. Maryland does have a freshman QB in Malik Washington making his first road start. That’s always a scary proposition to put your money behind. That being said, what has Wisconsin done to deserve being a 10.5 point favorite to anyone in the Big Ten?
The Pick: Maryland +10.5
Auburn vs Oklahoma
- Spread: Oklahoma -7.5
- O/U: 47.5
- ML: Auburn +195
The Jackson Arnold revenge game.
This is one of those spots where I think people will look what Oklahoma did to Michigan a couple weeks ago and think “Oklahoma dominated Michigan at home a couple weeks ago. So they should be able to do the same to Auburn.”. The problem with that line of thinking is that I think Auburn is just a better team than Michigan is. Especially on the offensive side of the ball. Jackson Arnold is going to have a little bit of extra motivation in this game too. I think Auburn not only stays in this game, but are very much live dogs in this game.
The Pick: Auburn +7.5
NC State vs Duke
- Spread: Duke -2.5
- O/U: 58.5
- ML: NC State +125
I might just be the biggest sucker out there but this game feels too easy to me. CJ Bailey has not impressed me one bit. He looked very uncomfortable in the first half last week against a bad Wake Forest team. I don’t think it’s going to be any easier against Manny Diaz’s defense. On top of that, Darian Mensah is an absolute dude. I just don’t see how NC State hangs in this game.
The Pick: Duke -2.5
Illinois vs Indiana
- Spread: Indiana -6.5
- O/U: 52.5
- ML: Illinois +188
Homer Pick of The Week Alert: I am going to take Illinois plus the points in this game. Let me try to convince you why it makes sense though.
Indiana comes into this game having really played no one. You could argue that Old Dominion is at least a competent team but realistically any Power 5 team with a pulse should beat that team (Except Virginia Tech I guess). Fernando Mendoza has looked solid in those games but I am just not confident that the bad decision making has been coached out of him. The Illinois defense already forces a lot of turnovers and that’s without the QB giving them easy ones.
For Illinois, I think the key to this game is to find a way to go into halftime with a lead because they have a tendency to start slow. I believe they will be able to throw the ball on this defense but will they be able to run? If they can’t, I don’t think it will be great day to be an Illini. However, I DO think that they will be able to run the ball. I think Illinois takes a lead into the 2nd half and shortens the game with the ground attack. There is not a single defender in the country that wants to try and tackle Kaden Feagin in the 4th quarter.
Illinois by a billion!
The Pick: Illinois +6.5
Florida vs Miami
- Spread: Miami -9.5
- O/U: 51.5
- ML: Florida +245
I don’t think you need me to give you a lot of analysis on this one.
Florida has had a very disappointing season so far. Billy Napier has the hottest seat in the country and this Gators team is on give up watch. On the other side of the ball is a team that I believe is one of the best teams in the country. On top of that this is a rivalry game, so Miami isn’t going to look past the Gators.
There is just nothing that points to the Gators being able to hang around in this game. I think Gator fans will need something tall and strong to get through this game.
The Pick: Miami -9.5
